BEAUCHENE, Elizabeth (Betty) May, - age 88 of Sault Ste. Marie, died Saturday January 12 at the Sault Area Hospitals. Betty was born on May 6, 1924 in Fort Frances, Ontario to the late Ambrose and Eliza (Campbell) Leatherdale.  She was blessed from the beginning with a strong mind, grace, and beautiful blue eyes. Betty took business courses in Winnipeg, Manitoba prior to working at Green’s department store in Fort Frances as a bookkeeper. She married George Denis Beauchene on April 25 in 1952 in Fort Frances (who predeceased her in 2000). She moved to Sault Ste. Marie with her husband shortly after and became a homemaker. Sault Ste. Marie was her chosen and beloved home for 60 years. Betty was an avid curler into her 60’s, and golfed almost her whole life.  Her passions were gardening, needlepoint, knitting, swimming in Lake Superior (no matter how cold it was) and attending garage sales.  She was an avid animal lover and also enjoyed pet sitting her friend’s and family’s animals. While Betty was active with many interests and friends, the center of her earthly world were her husband, her two sons, two daughters-in-law, and her three grandchildren. Her family was paramount to Betty. She was very active in Central United Church and proud member of the UCW.  She loved to participate in the unit meetings, spring auctions and the fall tea.  She greatly enjoyed doing the crafts for any projects involving the Central United Church.  Betty is survived by her two sons James George (wife Brenda) (Paradise Valley, AZ) and Robert Nelson (wife Lisa) (Weston, WI), as well as her grandchildren, Briana, (Milwaukee, WI) Jessica, (Fresno, CA) and Mark, (Paradise Valley, AZ).  She greatly treasured spending time with her sons and grandchildren, watching them grow from babies to adults.  Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (492 Wellington St. East) on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 6 to 9 pm. The funeral will be held from Central United Church (160 Spring St.) on Monday January 21, 2013 at 11 am. Interment Greenwood Cemetery.  There will be a reception at Central United Church after the church service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the UCW (United Church Women) of Central United Church. The family would like to give special thanks to Betty’s family physician Dr. Beduhn for his care, also to all of her neighbors, church friends, and the staff at Pathways for their kindness, support and friendship throughout the years.  Expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.arthurfuneralhome.com
