Peacefully at the Tendercare Nursing Home on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at the age of 65. Beloved husband of Barbara Duffin-Bates. Survived by his loving daughter Jennifer Bates (Robert Sutherby) from Halifax, Nova Scotia and his sons Duncan Bates (Rebecca Read) from Chester, Nova Scotia, Robin Bates and Daniel Bates from Sault Ste. Marie. Cherished grandad of Dylan Sutherby from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by his parents P. Leslie Bates, Amelia (nee Sim) and his stepmother Jean (nee Horsefall). Dear brother of Lesley Moira Bistevins (late Duncan Graham and the late Talis Bistevins) from Kentville, Nova Scotia; Frances Beaton (John) from Ayr, Scotland; Patricia Jackson (Patrick) from Vinaros, Spain; and stepbrothers Alex Graham (Maeve) from London, England and Kenneth Graham (Sandra) from Eaglesham, Scotland. Iain will be sadly missed by his parents-in-law Dr. Donald and Phyllis Duffin from Sault Ste. Marie. Always remembered by his brothers-in-law Thomas Duffin (Marlene) from Toronto and Michael Duffin (Shari) from Ottawa. Also survived by 8 nephews and one niece. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 from 12:00 p.m. until time of memorial service from the chapel at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will also be held in Wolfville, Nova Scotia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Parkinson Foundation or the Residents Counsel of the Tendercare Nursing Home would be appreciated by the family. The Bates family would like to thank Dr. John Clarke and the wonderful nursing staff at the Tendercare Nursing Home for their outstanding compassionate care.
