(January 31, 1944 - July 17, 2021) - With a broken heart at the Sault Area Hospital with family at his side.  

Predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Darlene Patricia Atkins (June 17, 2021).   Proud father of Darla J. Diotte (Atkins) and John C. Atkins. Grandfather of Dany and Thomas Atkins, Vannessa and Patricia Diotte (Rudy).  Devoted son of the late loving Thomas Copeman Atkins.  Son-in-law of the late Michael and June McCourt.  Brother of Judy Vigna (Larry), Rick Atkins (Janice), Susan Gagnon, Tim Reid (Christine) and Laurie Carscadden (Tim).  Also predeceased by Darlene's siblings Gary, Sharon and Patrick McCourt. John will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, special friends and THE FLUNKY GANG. 

John will be remembered for his quick wit, his hugs and his contributions to the community.  He truly lived the Lions motto "We Serve".  

Special thank you to the nursing staff of 3B and the Cancer Care Clinic at the Sault Area Hospital, Dr. Rassouli, Dr. Pearce, Dr. Beuhner and Dr. White, Bayshore HealthCare and the palliative care team for their care and compassion.

Special thank you to Judy and Larry for their devoted loving care and friendship to both Mom and Dad especially during the challenges of the past year.  

A graveside service will be held at Goulais River Cemetery on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at 1 pm.  Masks and social distancing are required.  Friends are invited to view the recorded service online and can be viewed anytime up to 90 days.
