Passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 in Sault Ste. Marie. Loving husband of Jean and his former wife the late Adele Armstrong. Dear father of Kim Cherry (Steve), Jeff (Alison), Megan Jacobs (Chris), Leslie (deceased), Jamie (Chrissie) and David (May). Loving grandfather of Kyle Pook (Jamie); Luke, Clare and Sophie; Kaitlyn, Stephanie and Leslie; Lucy and Jack; and Silas. Great grandfather of Finn. Step-father to Alison Travers. Dear brother of Beth Fenton (Bruce) and the late Jane McArthur (Joe). Kent was born on December 6, 1926 in Port Credit Ontario to Harold and Clare Armstrong. After graduating from the University of Toronto in 1949 (age 23) with his medical degree, Kent worked briefly as the medical officer at the Creighton Mine in Sudbury before returning to Toronto to obtain his fellowship in general surgery under the direction of Dr. R.M. Janes. A love of fishing and hunting cultivated in the wilds of Northern Ontario lured Kent and his young family to Sault Ste. Marie where, in 1959 he established his practice in general surgery. An accomplished skier and a first-rate pianist with a flair for dixieland jazz Kent contributed much colour to life in the Sault during his 45 years of professional medical service. Friends may call at the Northwood Funeral Home (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Saturday, January 10, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., at which time a Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel, Reverend Larry Burton officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sault Area Hospital - Surgical Care Fund would be appreciated by the family.
