ALLMENDINGER, Hanns

Posted

It is with much sadness that we announce our Dad’s passing from a broken
heart on 22 Dec 2003, in Campbell River, B.C. Born in Goeppingen, Germany on 31 Dec 1928, he married Renate Lehmann of Hamburg, Germany in 1953 and at the age of 25 immigrated to Canada. Together they raised 5 children in southern Ontario and upon his retirement as an executive in the wire and cable industry he convinced his wife to sell the house and tour the continent in a rather large motor home with car in tow. Discovering the beauty of Vancouver Island, they moved to Fanny Bay in 1988, and later settled in the Village of Sayward, B.C. Hanns was predeceased by Renate, his wife of 50 years this past April 22. He is survived and deeply missed by daughter Nina (Mike) Coulter of Sault Ste. Marie, son Michael (Nancy) of Toronto, son Thomas (Tamara) of Comox, daughters Carol and Rhonda of Kingston, Ontario, and grandchildren Vanessa, Spencer, and Logan. Hanns will also be missed by his two sisters, Lore (Herbert) Beitinger of Baltimore, Ontario and Hilde (Ewald) Rosch of Frankfurt Germany. An ardent outdoorsman, he retired his sports guns for fishing rods and binoculars and took his kids and grandchildren on numerous outdoor adventures. During the Christmas season, Hanns enjoyed setting up pottery displays with his wife at the local Christmas fairs and visiting with all the artists and vendors. A philosopher, Dad told it like it was and could always be counted on to make one see the better things in life. He volunteered his time to such groups as the Fish and Game Club, Citizens on Patrol and Sayward Futures. As per his wishes there will be no funeral service, but a
Celebration of Life will take place in the warmth of summer when his ashes will be spread upon land and sea. Many thanks to friends and neighbours of Sayward for their compassion and support over the past year. Special thanks to the staff of Sunshine Village, Campbell River General Hospital - your kindness will not be forgotten.
