Peacefully at home on Sunday, March 13, 2011 after a valiant fight. Loving husband of Roberta (Smart) for 49 years. Devoted father of Wendy (Pedro), Robert (Bobbi-Jo) and Richard (Tracy). Admired Papa of Jordan, Robyn and Ryan. Predeceased by his parents Mae and Rexford, brother Rexford and sister Marg Thomas (Rick). Respected brother of Richard (Marilyn), Jackie Townsend (Grant) and JoAnn Cain (Brian). Brother-in-law of Marlene Prokopchuk (Nick), Janice Strom (Tom), Sheila Marshall (late Dunc), the late Mary Carbone (Patsy) and Andrea Penno (Roy). In 1955 Bob came to Sault Ste. Marie from Manitoulin Island and started his career with George Stone and Sons which spanned 43 years from September 12, 1955 until his retirement on October 2, 1998. He left a legacy of many major construction projects from Marathon to Manitoulin Island and everywhere in between. After his retirement, Bob honed his superb baking skills with the best butter tarts, no one could make butter tarts quite like him! Bob and his faithful companion Mac enjoyed delivering them to everyone and anyone he could think of. The family’s appreciation goes out to Sault Ste. Marie Paramedics Steve Olsen and Steve Kovacevich, as well as the staff and volunteers of the SAH Emergency. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Thursday, March 17, 2011 from 6-9 pm. In respecting Bob’s wishes no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the St. Joseph Island Museum. One adjective used to describe papa “dedicated”, but most importantly he was “ours”.
