We are saddened to announce the passing of Captain Curtis James Abbott (CD), on April 11, 2024, at ARCH in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 52 years, both with Owen Sound, Branch No. 6 and Sault Ste. Marie, Branch No. 25.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Dr. Rose Ella Cameron of Algoma University and his two stepchildren. His parents: Jim and Bea Abbott, siblings: Cory Harrison, Cathy Holland, and Jamie Abbott; his aunties and uncles: Carolyn Abbott, Bill Abbott, Carl and Ruthie Moher, and cousin: Courtney. He will be missed by his beloved children: Amanda Abbott, Jennifer Walker, Mayla Abbott, Hillary Martin, and ex-spouse: Suzanne Abbott. Curtis was a proud grandfather of his seven grandchildren: Pavan, Heath, Finley, Larsa, Alba, Bowen and Blaire. A special gratitude to his wife’s Cameron family for their eminent kinship and ongoing support.

Curtis enjoyed being out on the land, boating and residing with his spouse at their homemade cabin, on the Winnipeg River. His favourite activity was watching the sunset on a boat with Rose at the end of the day.

We thank Dr. Michela Febbraro, Dr. Karen Booth, the Home and Community Care Support Services – Northeast Region, Paramed Home Health Care, and the staff of ARCH for their exceptional care they provided over the past months.

At per Curtis’ request, cremation has taken place, and a private gathering will be determined by the family at a later date.

The family asks that all charitable donations are to be made to ARCH, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (payable by cheque or online using the link below). Arrangements entrusted to the O’Sullivan Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 215 St. James St., Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, P6A 1P7, 705-759-8456.
