MONTREAL — Los Angeles Galaxy star Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off in the 42nd minute after slapping Montreal Impact fullback Michael Petrasso on Monday afternoon.

Petrasso was marking the six-foot-five striker away from the ball when he backed into him and stepped on his foot. Ibrahimovic responded with a slap to the side of Petrasso's head.

After consulting VAR, referee Ismail Elfath showed Ibrahimovic the red card and Petrasso the yellow.

When Petrasso went to the ground after the slap, Ibrahimovic also went down, then was limping as he was helped off the field by a trainer.

A full house of 20,801 jeered as he left the field.
