Coquitlam earns right to host 2022 men's world lacrosse championship

Coquitlam, B.C., will play host to the 2022 men's world lacrosse championship.

The event, held every four years, hasn't been in Canada since London, Ont., staged it in 2006.

The Federation of International Lacrosse awarded the event to Coquitlam on Monday, less than a month before this year's worlds in Netanya, Israel. Canada won gold in the last tournament in 2014 in Denver.

The 2022 event will be held from July 13-24.

"We look forward to welcoming the international lacrosse community to beautiful Coquitlam in 2022 and showcasing Canada's national summer sport to the world," Joey Harris, president of the Canadian Lacrosse Association, said in a statement.
