Canada dispatched from 3x3 World Cup basketball tournament with loss to Dutch

BOCAUE, Philippines — Canada was ousted from the FIBA 3x3 basketball World Cup with a heartbreaking 18-16 loss to the Netherlands in Tuesday's quarterfinals.

Michael Linklater, Steve Sir, Jermaine Bucknor and Michael Lieffers went into medal play undefeated, finishing atop their group at 4-0.

The loss left the Canadians sixth in their first FIBA 3x3 World Cup appearance.

Linklater and Bucknor led scoring for Canada with five points apiece, while Sir and Lieffers had three each.  

Basketball's 3x3 version will make its Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2020.
