Chimney Swifts are small, swallow-like birds that migrate here from South America. Thousands roost in our city chimneys for the night and spend the day feeding on insects. Most will move to outlying areas to breed and nest.

As a result of habitat loss and other factors, Chimney Swifts are now an endangered species. The remaining large chimneys of Sault Ste. Marie are critical habitat for these birds.

On Saturday, June 3, learn more about Chimney Swifts and come to the Queen Street Cenotaph in front of the Courthouse. Witness the thrilling spectacle of hundreds of birds entering the Courthouse chimney at sunset.

Information pamphlets provide by the Sault Naturalists of Ontario and Michigan.
