Work on $13.5M Considine Hall commences

Contractors with Hallmark Construction out of Traverse City, Michigan, clear the interior of Lake Superior State University's South Hall on April 23 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

The demolition formally begins a $13.5 million renovation of the building into R.W. Considine Hall, which will open for classes in fall 2016 and house LSSU's Lukenda School of Business.

The School is named in honor of LSSU alum and Sault, ON, businessman Dr. Lou Lukenda.

Considine Hall derives from Trout Lake, Michigan, native and retired entrepreneur Dr. Robert Considine.

Both men have been instrumental over the years with gifts ranging from scholarships, to the underwriting of numerous capital (building and facility) campaigns across a range of programs and disciplines.

The foreground beam was signed by students and staff during a 2014 open house that marked a milestone in the project's capital campaign, and will be preserved in a memorabilia lounge along with some stamped tin ceiling panels seen in this photo that date back 110 years.
