Water Tower Inn gives back with gift card campaign

For over 60 years, the staff of J J’s Hospitality have employed their shared values...reach out, do good! The ongoing pandemic and subsequent economic instability have driven up demand for emergency support services, all the while limiting fundraising opportunities for local groups. The Water Tower Inn staff wish to turn 2020 into a year-end positive action of common cause for a better community in 2021. 
 
“This year COVID beat us down! No longer! Now we’re fighting back for peace and joy and commitment to common good!” says JJ Hilsinger, Water Tower Inn proprietor. Therefore, for every gift card purchased by Dec. 31, 2020, we’ll give back 50 per cent of the value.
 
Our staff chose two broad-based community groups to share the proceeds for local benefits and to help others in need beyond our shores.
 
The United Way has been critical in providing Emergency Service support to challenged individuals, particularly those feeling the effects of the pandemic. Their Food Resource Centre, Harvest Algoma, supports a broad network of food banks in Algoma, and connects residents to healthy food resources.

“You and your team will truly help us tackle the “un-ignorable” issues happening locally in our community!” said Rayna Evoy, campaign manager for the United Way.
 
Tumaini Afrika is a locally-based group of volunteers who are dedicated to giving a “hand up” to children and youth in Kenya. Tumaini works personally with the Kenyan-based groups to whom they donate, holding them accountable for the funds received. Members of the group travel to Kenya at their own expense every two years to forge relationships, determine needs and to ensure the aid is being used as planned.

“I was so thrilled and surprised with the call!” said Holly Wickett, member of Tumaini Afrika. “We are so excited as we have been struggling to find ways to raise funds for our kids in Kenya!”
 
Water Tower Inn gift cards can be purchased in person at Reception or Casey’s, or online at watertowerinn.com/giftcards. Inn gift cards can be used for anything at the Inn, including staycations, dining and Club Cabana Aqua Spa memberships. Fifty per cent of sales, Nov. 23, 2020 - Dec. 31, 2020, will be redirected to the United Way and Tumaini Afrika.
