United Steelworkers unions donate over $16,000 to local organizations (2 photos)

The Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen, St. Vincent Place, ARCH, and Women in Crisis were among the recipients

In keeping with the spirit of the season, the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen and St. Vincent Place received cheques from the Steelworkers Humanity Fund Wednesday. The Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen received $4,000 and St. Vincent Place received $1,000. This year, the Steelworkers Humanity Fund is contributing over $190,000 to food banks across Canada.

The Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen also received cheques from USW Locals 2251, 2724, 9548 and 8748, totaling $3,750.

St. Vincent Place received cheques from USW Locals 9548, 2724 and 2251 totaling $2,500.

USW Local 2724 also donated $1,000 to each of the following charities – ARCH, Pauline’s Place, Sault Star Santa Fund and the Salvation Army.

USW Local 9548 donated $1,000 each to Women in Crisis, Making a Difference and ARCH.

In December USW Local 2251 will be donating $1,500 to ARCH. The Local will also be delivering dessert trays and personal care bags to its members/retirees who are in area retirement homes or ARCH on behalf of its membership.
