NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF SAULT STE. MARIE

***********************
The City of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario City Council and members of the Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan City Commission  gathered last evening to discuss mutually beneficial projects. One of those important projects included Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario’s celebration of Canada 150.

“2017 marks the 150th anniversary of Confederation in which Sault Ste. Marie Ontario joins the country in celebration of Canada 150,” explained Councillor Susan Myers, Chair of the Mayor’s Committee on Celebrate Canada 150. “This poignant milestone provides a significant opportunity to celebrate who the City is as a community and as a country. As Sault, Ontario enters into its next chapter, the support, engagement and strength of partners like Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan will only help to increase the impact of our community in ways that matter.”

Sault Ste. Marie’s Canada 150 ‘A Long Road Travelled’ celebration is proud to feature activities on and around four national days including Aboriginal Day (June 21), St. Jean Baptises Day (June 24), Multicultural Day (June 27) and Canada Day (July 1). Sault Ste. Marie’s own Dr. Roberta Bondar will participate as the City’s ambassador for the Canada 150 celebrations.

A full listing of events and activities can be viewed on the City’s Canada 150 community calendar at www.saultstemarie.ca/canada150calendar. The community is encouraged to add their event to the calendar and to join in this historic celebration.
