Time to discuss water quality in Central Algoma

Central Algoma Freshwater Coalition is holding two open houses in October to discuss water quality in Central Algoma.

The first open house will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26 at the Sowerby Hall, 1410 Basswood Lake, Road, Sowerby, Ont. and will discuss the Bolton River (Basswood and Bright Lakes) Watershed.

The second open house will be held Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Johnson Township Community Center, 1 Cameron Ave (and Main St), Desbarats, Ont.  and will discuss the Desbarats River and Stobie Creek Watersheds.

With funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation CAFC collected nutrient related water quality monitoring data in these watersheds in 2014 and 2015. Presentations of the monitoring results, recommendations and a look some best practices to improve water quality will be presented at 2 p..m. and 7 pm. The open house will run 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The purpose of the open house is to “support continuous community based improvements in water quality,” said CAFC’s President Chuck Miller.

The Central Algoma Freshwater Coalition is a volunteer not-for-profit organization (incorporated in 2011) dedicated to the protection and restoration of the watersheds throughout the Central Algoma Region. A region encompassing the Lake Huron Drainage basin between the western limits of Garden River to the eastern limits of the Municipality of Huron Shores.
