The 432 (Algoma) Wing Royal Canadian Air Force Association is marking its 70th anniversary in February.

The group consists of men and women who are involved in military and civilian aviation in the Sault and area and across Canada, devoted to keeping aviation traditions alive and youth development in the local community.

The organization supports the 155 Borden Gray G.C. Sault Ste. Marie 155 Royal Canadian Air Cadets and is also keenly interested in the development of the Royal Canadian Air Force, routinely advising the federal government through the association’s national office in Ottawa.

Some of its members work at aviation museums across Canada to help keep aviation history alive.

Many of its members have served in the RCAF and have settled in the Sault and area.

Four of them have received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for their community involvement.

Five have also received the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers for community involvement.

The group was formed on Feb. 23, 1953 and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its charter signing, they are holding an event in The Officer’s Mess at the Pine Street Armoury.

Members and former members of the Air Force Association of Canada and the Royal Canadian Air Force Association are encouraged to attend, mix and mingle with old friends, share stories and celebrate the group’s history.

The event begins at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19.

Hors D’Oeuvres and refreshments will be available.

Gentlemen are asked to wear business suits, ladies to wear business attire.

Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP to John Hooper at 705-248-1233 or Clyde Healey at 705-946-2464 by Feb. 10, 2023 in order to reserve a place at the come and go Officer’s Mess gathering.
