ALGOMA FAMILY SERVICES FOUNDATION

On Wednesday, September 9, 2015, the Sault North Rotary presented a $15,000 cheque to Algoma Family Services Foundation as a donation to the Crisis Follow-Up (CFU) program and Psychology Services.

This generous donation from the Sault North Rotary will assist Algoma Family Services in the provision of Psychological Assessments; as well as address in part the resource capacity challenges for the CFU program.

Approximately 100 psychological assessments are completed each year.

These assessments inform therapeutic treatment planning as well as overall service direction.

As of June 2015, the CFU program was carrying a caseload of 121 active clients and is on pace to receive 29 percent more service requests this fiscal year as compared to 2014.

CFU clinician, Mike Kreutzweiser, had stated, “The CFU program services a high-risk client population within the Algoma District, yet limited staffing and funding resources make it difficult to meet the service demand.”

CFU services children and youth from ages 6-18 years old.

There is no wait list for this service.

Clients are seen within 24-48 hours of referral from the Crisis Unit or the CAP Unit at the Sault Area Hospital.

“Due to the high-risk nature and safety-concerns associated with these clients, they need to be seen immediately,” Mike said.

The Sault North Rotary takes an abundance of action within the community through projects and fundraisers.

The Club’s mandate is “Youth in Our Community” with focus on youth education and development, where club members also contribute to promoting the advancement of international understanding and peace through the ideal of service.

The Club’s main fundraisers include Trip of the Month, Internet Auction, and an Annual Fish Dinner.

Money raised from fundraisers is donated to local sports groups for team sponsorships, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Algoma Fall Festival Education Program, the Rotary Leadership Awareness Conference which involves Grade 11 students from across the Algoma District, Pauline’s Place and the CFU Program and Psychology Services at Algoma Family Services

The Club includes numerous dedicated and community-focused members that meet weekly in order to continue reaching out to our community, and the world, to help others.
