ROTARY CLUB OF SAULT STE. MARIE

Thanks to the continued support of our community, the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie was able to make a donation of $15,000 to THRIVE Child Development Centre yesterday.

“It has been a difficult year for our club. Despite having to cancel almost a year’s worth of fundraisers, our Rotarians remain dedicated to finding ways to continue helping children and youth,” shared Club President Megan Wigmore. “We couldn’t do what we do without the amazing people of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma, who gave generously even during uncertain times.”

The donation was made possible thanks to the success of the club’s lotteries: the Take Your Pick draw in November, 50/50 draws throughout the year, and the NEW online Rotary Catch the Ace draw - currently drawing every Tuesday.

The $15,000 donation will enable THRIVE to evolve and to continue to provide best practice, evidenced-based therapy in innovative ways. The funds will specifically support virtual services by accessing new tools and virtual activities and programming to THRIVE children and families. Supports include equipment such as tablets, earphones, MiFis and "therapy/programming" packages that are provided to families so that they can more successfully engage in their video conferencing sessions.

“We wish to extend our gratitude to the Rotary for the continued support for THRIVE,” said Lisa Henderson, CEO of THRIVE. “Your amazing generosity helps children, youth and families we support to live their best lives and discover their own individual extraordinary!”

“We have been a THRIVE family for seven years for our son Benjamin who has complex needs. Having a child with complex needs can be a frustrating, overwhelming and at times an isolating experience. It is important to find the right people - your team who become your life line and your tribe,” shared Kate, Benjamin’s mother. “THRIVE has consistently provided the support we need as a family.

Following a holistic approach, our team ensures the well being of our family, which includes Benjamin but is not separate from him. A complex child changes the trajectory and lived experiences of the family unit. Our team genuinely cares how each of us are doing. They are a team of individuals who are doing the right job, for the right reasons. We know that our team will be there, they show up. They share in our tears and frustrations but also celebrate our laughter and joy. We are genuinely grateful for our ‘Team Benjamin’.”

You can help the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie continue to support kids like Benjamin and his family. Purchase your tickets weekly for Rotary’s online Catch The Ace draw, and help support youth and community projects including THRIVE. Tickets can be purchased online.

There is a new winner every week, and the current jackpot is over $6,400!
