BRUCE MINES -  The Bruce Mines and District Chamber of Commerce with the support of the Town of Bruce Mines, Johnson Township and the Township of Plummer Additional, invite those who called our area “home” at one time, to “Come Home” for Canada’s 150!

“It’s been great to work with so many like-minded groups and volunteers, coming together to make an event of this scope, a huge success. We are looking forward to a great weekend of re-connecting with family and friends, experiencing everything great this area has to offer and celebrate our nation’s anniversary,” says Jim McCulloch, Chair of the BMDCC 150 Committee.

Three municipalities, sixteen local community groups and up to fifty volunteers have worked together for the past year to present a celebration weekend full of events and experiences for every age.

Like tractors? Get on the bus for the annual Tractor Trot in Richards Landing. Cycling? Take a guided tour along a portion of the new Great Lakes Waterfront Trail and stop for lunch at Caribou Lake. 

If hiking, walking or history is your thing, enjoy a hike to the Black Hole at the Kensington Conservancy; walk the historic streets of Bruce Mines taking in the century old doll house at the museum, walk past the homes and significant sites of our founders, wander along the Mine Trail and head underground at the Simpson Mine Shaft.

The Rural Historic Bus Tours re-discover favourite haunts and iconic locations including century old barns, farms and historic locations in both Johnson and Plummer Additional. If you like water, join the fun on the waterfront of the Archibald Homestead of the Kensington Conservancy for a non-motorized Poker Paddle around the shores and small islands of the North Channel.  

Festivities begin Friday, June 30 with a “Welcome BBQ & BYO Instrument Jam Night” and “Bruce Mines Public School Reunion.” Saturday, begins with a Pancake Breakfast to start a full day of re-discovery. 

The 150 Celebration starts in the late afternoon, at the waterfront including Opening Ceremonies with the Bruce Mines Legion, Branch 211. Enjoy food vendors, games of skill, a dunk tank, live music by “Northbound 35” and “The Trio” of Sue Martinelli, Kelly McGillivray and Sue Roy, and end with our signature “Fireworks Show.” 

Dance the night away to favourite classics with Nostalgia Live.  Sunday is another full day of touring around the area including the Rural Heritage Bus Tour and the Poker Paddle in the Kensington Conservancy. 

Fort St. Joseph comes alive on Monday with re-enactments and early settler demonstrations and Tuesday, July 4 welcome the Big Voyageur Canoes to Bruce Mines in the afternoon with a Black Powder salute and BBQ!
