McDougall Energy together with Imperial’s Esso Community Program, are pleased to sponsor the Ontario Special Olympics taking place in Sault Ste. Marie from Jan. 31 to Feb. 3, 2019.

The $10,000 sponsorship recognizes McDougall Energy as a Gold Level Sponsor of the games. The Gold sponsorship also supports 10 athletes through the “Adopt an Athlete Program”.

The 2019 games will see nearly 500 athletes along with coaches, family and friends visit Sault Ste. Marie to participate in and view competitions in six winter sports: Nordic Skiing, Alpine Skiing, Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Curling and Snowshoeing. They also expect to have 500 volunteers supporting the games.

Marie and McDougall Energy” commented Darren McDougall, President of McDougall Energy. “We have long been a supporter of athletics within this community and across the province. These athletes work so hard to get to this level of competition and we’re proud to support and encourage their commitment and determination”.

Jennifer McDougall, Director of Human Resources and Cathy Neufeld, Corporate Marketing Manager of McDougall Energy, met with Constable Shaun Beaulieu, Games Manager of the Ontario Special Olympics 2019 Provincial Winter Games, and Hugh Stevenson, Chief of Police, Sault Ste. Marie, to present the ceremonial cheque.

The 2019 Ontario Special Olympics, which will take place in Sault Ste. Marie, are a Provincial Level competition. Provincial games are held on a rotating basis over a four-year period. Athletes, based on age, gender, performance and regional endorsement, are selected from Provincial Games to advance to National Games.
