NEWS RELEASE

ARTSPEAKS PROJECT

*************************
The ARTSPEAKS Project is a one-year pilot-project consisting of two distinct programs intended to offer women and female-identifying individuals impacted by sexual violence, addictions and mental health challenges, the opportunity to participate in art-based-learning through cultural mentorship with professional artists.

ART-Drop Fridays beginning Mar. 24, 2017, is bringing the project to an audience beyond that of their partner agencies.

This an opportunity for a gender diverse community of cisgendered women, female-identifying folks, transwomen, two-spirit, non-binary folks, and youth (16+), to come together in the process of making art that speaks to one’s experiences in contemporary society. Fridays 1-4 p.m.; drop-in/free-of-charge.

The ARTSPEAKS Workshop Series is set to begin Apr. 4, 2017. These structured sessions are offered to clients of the project’s partner agencies: Breton House, Phoenix Rising and SAH’s Sexual Assault Care Centre (SACC).

Women and female-identifying folks living with trauma and mental health challenges due to sexual violence and addictions are invited to participate in four different short-term workshop series with professional visual artists—learning the basics of art, design and narrative processes towards the creation of personally meaningful and exhibition-ready art works. By agency referral and pre-registration.

About ARTSPEAKS

ARTSPEAKS is generously funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and represents the partnering of three local agencies invested in women's health: Breton House, Phoenix Rising Women’s Centre and the SAH's Sexual Assault Care Centre.
