NEWS RELEASE

ALGOMA FAMILY SERVICES

*************************
YOUnion is thrilled to host an event called Take Back Consent on Thursday, September 17 from 4:15 - 6:15 p.m. at the Elks Lodge located at 216 Bay Street.

This event is FREE to all youth.

Take Back Consent has been organized to educate youth on consent.

YOUnion would like to turn “rape culture” into “consent culture,” in partnership with Phoenix Rising and Womyn 4 Social Justice who will be hosting Take Back the Night Walk.

The group will be covering topics such as defining consent and sexual assault, consent in relationships, legal age of consent, consent in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community, how to ask for consent and how to say no.

YOUnion members will educate this topic through short skits, a world café, and an art expression display.

Food and refreshments will be provided.

YOUnion is a youth engagement group with Algoma Family Services that is focused on ‘disabling the label’ by concentrating on reducing the stigma surrounding mental challenges while raising awareness of youth mental health.
