A local company is offering free business communications training to newcomers.

A Sault Ste. Marie company that assists newcomers is hosting a free business communications training program for foreign workers and international graduates Jan. 9. InterCultural Avec Immigration Inc. (iCA) will hold the three-hour session at its office within the Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship from 1-4 pm., according to a news release.

Training is provided by the Science North Skill Up! program and the session covers topics such as Outlook email and Teams platforms functionality as well as e-mail etiquette. A facilitator from iCA and administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory will be onsite to support a global interpretation of
Canadian workplace conventions, the release stated.

“We know that communication is one of the most sought after skills by employers, and the way we do it in Canada may be different from what some newcomers are used to. The goal here is to help in preparing foreign workers to be successful in communicating with their peers in an office environment” said Jennifer Johnson, CEO of the corporation and local Sault resident.

All participants will receive a 15-minute free immigration and job coaching consultation by a regulated Canadian immigration consultant. Registration is required for the training session via Eventbrite. The Science North training team is also offering business communications and Google docs training sessions at the Bushplane Museum on Jan. 10-12. Register for these additional free public sessions on the Science North website.
