Lemieux Composting was inspired by the National Garden Bureau which designated 2021 the year of the sunflower.

This summer kids had the chance to win $100 by growing their own sunflower. Registration and seed pick up took place in May and over the summer kids had the opportunity to learn about gardening. Entries were due by Sept. 20, and we had so many amazing entries.

In addition to the individual entries we had one class from F.H.Clergue enter the contest. Madame Ramsay and Madame Bertolo of the 2020 Grade 3 class registered their entire classroom, as well as submitted their entries. We wanted to recognize their hard work and dedication by delivering a sunflower welcome sign for their classroom. We also brought cupcakes for the entire classroom as a treat.

We would like to thank all the participants, parents, grandparents, and guardians who helped make this competition possible. We had an amazing amount of interest and look forward to expanding the competition next year to include adults and a senior class. Check out our Facebook page to see the winners.

Great work kids on growing such beautiful sunflowers this summer! We look forward to seeing everyone’s participation next year.
