The Sault Ste. Marie Climate Hub is pleased to partner with Science North in bringing a free online seminar on Wednesday, April 26, 7:30 to 9 p.m., to anyone who may be interested.

Food for a Sustainable Future – Environmental Benefits of Plant-Based Eating

One of the most impactful and effective ways for individuals to act on climate change is by switching to a plant-based diet. Food for a Sustainable Future outlines the implications of plant-based eating in terms of climate change, and the benefits it can have for both you and the environment. Emma Meadows explains why she made the choice to cut out meat from her diet, and why she encourages others to also reduce meat consumption and incorporate more plant-based meals into their lives.

Emma Meadows is the Climate Action staff scientist at Science North and the vice chair of Science North's Green Team. She holds a Master of Environmental Science with a specialization in Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation from the University of Toronto. Emma strives to inspire audiences across Canada, particularly youth, to act on climate change and incorporate sustainable practices into everyday life. She is a strong believer that individual choices can make a difference when it comes to climate solutions.

Prior to the main webinar, Emma and some youth participants will present a brief summary of Science North’ Youth Climate Action Summit just held in Sault Ste. Marie. The summit was a two-day interactive conference for high school students to learn, be inspired and take action on climate change.

“We are excited to team up with Emma Meadows from Science North. Her expertise and knowledge about how our food choices can create an impact on climate change will be enlightening,” says Rob Fleming of the Sault Ste. Marie Climate Hub.
