NEWS RELEASE

EMMANUEL UNITED CHURCH

The SAH Volunteer Association (SAHVA) has for many years supplied the Algoma District Cancer Clinic Program with chemo hats for cancer patients. This has been a huge undertaking on the behalf of the Association.

SAH volunteers have donated material, fundraised to also purchase material and sewing supplies, as well as given much time, effort, and skill, in the cutting and sewing of chemo hats, in order that an adequate supply was always available for patients.

As with any ongoing volunteer project, the more hands helping the better the outcome.

This past spring a group of friends and members of Emmanuel United Church located at 224 Bennett Boulevard, took up the call for more sewers of chemo hats.

These dedicated individuals brought to Emmanuel, material, sewing machines, sewing supplies and most of all a generous spirit accompanied by skill and effort.

A special bin was set up, at Emmanuel, to collect the chemo hats, but that was seldom utilized as these industrious sewers filled shopping bags on a weekly basis.

It has just been so overwhelming to know that these individuals within a very short period of time have sewn and donated 125 chemo hats, with more to come.

Anyone touched by cancer who has worn one of these hand crafted chemo hats, located at the cancer clinic, will truly appreciate the kindness and generosity of these sewing angels from Emmanuel United Church.

It is with profound gratitude that I offer my thanks to those individuals from Emmanuel United Church, who gave of their time, skill and effort to enhance the lives of individuals experiencing a cancer journey.

You have given a gift that will definitely touch and impact on, the lives of so many within our community.

On behalf of the patients and their families, the SAH staff and volunteers, thank you for all that you have done to care for others.

Sewers are always welcome. If you would like more information on how you can become a chemo hat sewing volunteer contact [email protected].
