The United Way of Sault Ste. Marie and district is seeking nominations for the Larry Knapp Community Building Award.

United Way defines Community Building as a process of mobilizing communities to improve people’s lives.

We understand the hard work and dedication our volunteers deliver and we want to celebrate and recognize the positive impact volunteers have on the not for profit sector and to the community.

Larry Knapp is an outstanding example of volunteer excellence and a Community Builder.

He is well known to the United Way and the Sault Ste. Marie community for his extensive volunteer commitment throughout the years.

Larry has received numerous national, provincial and community awards and has demonstrated superior leadership in many organizations such as the Economic Development Corporation, Cultural Advisory Board, Mayor’s Round Table Coordination Committee, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Art Gallery of Algoma and the United Church of Canada.

Larry has been an active volunteer for United Way and Volunteer Sault Ste. Marie for over twenty-five years. During this time Larry has served in a variety of positions such as the Community Assistance Trust Committee Chair, United Way Board President and Vice-President, Campaign Chair, Supplementary Fundraising Committee Chair, Social Services Solution Council Chair, and is a member of the Community Endowment Fund Committee.

Larry Knapp Community Building Award Criteria:

Any Volunteer, who has made a lasting contribution to the Community, may be nominated by an individual or not for profit organization.

This award will be presented at the 28th Annual Community Volunteer Appreciation Celebration on Friday April 15th at The Grand Gardens North – hosted by Volunteer Sault Ste. Marie
