Lake Superior State University's learning center director Geralyn Narkiewicz interfaces between the real and virtual through a pair of Google glasses, eyewear that overlays Web information through a prism seen above Narkiewicz's right eye.

The device tracks GPS location and sports a 750p video/five-megapixel still camera.

The glasses were one of more than a dozen transformational teaching technologies that Andrew Vanden Heuval (right), a professor physics and astronomy at Calvin College, shared with LSSU faculty, students, and staff during workshops offered through the newly-launched Faculty Center for Teaching (FCT).

The center is funded by a $1.86 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Strengthening Institutions Program to enhance faculty teaching and strengthen student advising.

The grant is one of just 39 issued throughout the country, and the only one awarded in Michigan.

Run a Web search on LSSU FCT to follow upcoming activities and read about the center's resources.

Pictured left is Gail Essmaker, a learning technologist with LSSU's Learning Center and the FCT.
