This year, McDougall Energy together with the support of the Imperial Oil Esso Community Program was thrilled to participate in the  Rotary Charity Golf Classic which raised $35,000 for Thrive Child Development Centre thanks to local sponsors and 160 golfers.

The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie and McDougall Energy presented a cheque at Rotary’s Tuesday luncheon to CEO Christianne Monico who was accompanied by the McInnis family whose daughter Kendra benefits from Thrive’s services.

“Thrive and its Foundation would like to thank McDougall Energy Inc., the Esso Community Program and  the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie, our staff, Board of Directors and Foundation volunteers for making this event such an amazing success!” said Monico.

“To the golfers that day and the community at large who supported this fantastic event, please know the proceeds are supporting local children and families and the Centre with a variety of needs; including but not limited to, specialty medical clinics (Pediatric Neurology, Psychology and Orthopedics), medical-related travel expenses, enhanced therapy programming, adaptive equipment and advanced communication devices. The impact your support has on the children and families serviced by Thrive is invaluable!”

The Rotary Club thanks all the sponsors, volunteers, and participants who made this event a success. McDougall Energy and the Esso Community Program donated $17,000 to the golf tournament and Scotiabank matched $5,000 of the funds raised at the event’s auction.

“It was great to see so many golfers, volunteers and other organizations come together to support Thrive,” commented Greg Peres, CFO, McDougall Energy Inc.  “We’re so proud that our initial contribution with the Esso Community Program could help raise almost double the original amount.”

The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie is celebrating its 100th year in the community, 66 of which Rotary has supported Thrive. “Our club was instrumental in the formation of Thrive, formerly The Rotary Children’s Centre, in 1952,” shared Rotarian and event chair Doug Powell. “All funds raised and donated to Thrive stay in our District of Algoma and serve our community.”
