Seven games were played in week 8 including one make up game between Lafarge and Crawford's Canines.

Lafarge held off a late attack by the Canines pack to win 4-2. WHL rookie Cheri Taylor's first goal of the season was the winner for Lafarge. Susan Sherrard and Alicia Pollock also scored and Geri Miller netted the insurance marker with just under three minutes remaining. Robin Bourck had one assist. Scoring for Crawford's were Sarah Fischer and Shelli Ubriaco, both unassisted.

On Sunday, Investors Group and White Oak Paint traded the lead a couple of times until five third period goals sealed a 7-4 win for Investors.

Ellen Ford scored the winning goal, her first career goal, with five minutes left in the game. Teammate and fellow WHL rookie, Leslie Bois, also scored her first goal in the win.

Carrie Mancuso had two goals and one assist and Lisa Case scored twice. Ellen (MacDash) MacDougall had The Group's other goal. Assists went to Andrea Moraca (2), Trish Evans (2), Ellen Ford, Marg Walsh and MacDash.

White Oak's Julie Hodkinson had the hot hands with a hattrick. Tanya Dowding scored once while Lisa Rowlinson, Deedee Watson and Debbie Shubat each earned one assist.

Algoma Insurance defeated Crawford's Canines 4-1 Sunday. Penny Glover scored her first goal of the year and added two assists while Debbie Beauchamp and Jennifer Blahey each had a goal and an assist. Rookie Kristen Nelson scored as assists went to Theresa Glover and Lori Swan.

Jaime Adair had the lone goal for the Canines as Penny Souliere picked up her first point with one assist.

Monday night, Lafarge and Skip's Kweok tangled in an intense and entertaining contest. Pam Booth's goal was the difference as Skip's held on for a 5-4 win.

Both goalies were outstanding. Skip's Marion Seymour stopped every Lafarge shooter with the exception of Robin Bourck who bagged all four Lafarge goals. Nancy Dewling was equally impressive for Lafarge, including a key save on Mona Jones' penalty shot attempt.

Skip's other goal scorers included Debbie (Digger) Desgagne with a hattrick and one assist, Chris Elliot with her second career goal and Booth, Natalie Barry, Trish Irvine and Rose Jones all with one assist each. Patti Lutz had three assists for Lafarge with singles to Gerri Miller and Cheri Taylor.

Francine (Flash) Floreani was the hero for Country Way as they downed Algoma Insurance 1-0. Lorilee Matheson picked up her first point of the season with an assist on the winning goal. Teri Bonnell had the shut out, her first of the year.

Investors Group skated to a 6-2 win over Crawford's Canines. Rookie Ellen Ford opened the scoring with her second goal of the year and added one assist. Trish Evans had two goals and one assist. Carrie Mancuso had one goal and two assists while Leslie Bois had a goal and an assist. Ellen (MacDash) MacDougall also scored once. Other assists went to Doreen Shaw (2), Andrea Moraca and Debbie (Gunner) Gallagher.

With just five minutes remaining, the Fischer sisters ganged up on goalie Laurie Terris to ruin her shut out bid. Sarah Fischer scored with help from Sabrina Fischer after some tenacious forechecking. Just two minutes later Jaime Adair scored her third of the season from Shelli Ubriaco and Natalie Carriere.

Two teams that are all too familiar with tie games added yet another one to their season, this time a scoreless tie, for Palmer Paving and Source for Sports. Palmer now leads the league with 5 ties. Source sits right behind them with 4. Neither team could solve either goalie as Source's Karen Armstrong picked up her third shut out and Palmer's Melissa Holder earned her second of the year.

Just one more week left for teams to scramble for playoff positions. The league winds down its regular season games this weekend starting with a make up game Friday night at 9pm at McMeeken between Algoma Insurance and Investors Group.

Sunday, Country Way plays Source for Sports at 4pm and Palmer Paving meets White Oak Paint at 5pm. Both games are at McMeeken.

Monday in Echo Bay Source and Investors play at 6:30pm, Crawford's Canines play Palmer Paving at 7:30pm, White Oak Paint and Lafarge meet at 8:30pm and Skip's Kweok faces off against Algoma Insurance at 9:30pm.
