Fisher-Wavy Concrete – 2 vs. Easy Express – 1

This was an exciting game as it came down to the final minutes of the third period to determine a winner. Both teams were unable to get on the scoreboard in the first period, leaving the next two filled with action. In the second period, Fisher-Wavy was able to get to take the lead, when Jenn Blahey, fired the puck passed Easy Express’ pickup goalie, Kristen Libby. Assisting on the goal was Patti Lutz. In the third period, Fisher-Wavy tool a 2-0 lead, when Blahey scored her second of the game. Sandra Pawson and Debbie Agliani picked up assists. Easy Express was not going to go down without a fight though, scoring just 2 minutes later to cut the lead to one. Scoring for Easy Express was Sarah Fischer, assisted by Christina Popowych. With time running out, Easy Express pressured Fisher- Wavy, who hung on for the win.

Algoma Insurance – 5 vs. Ont. Concrete – 4

It was a heartbreaker for Ont. Concrete, as they still remain the cellar-dwellers of the WHL ‘B’ Division. Algoma jumped out to an early 3-o as they scored three times in the first period, to set the pace. Scoring for Algoma was Korri Rajala (2), and Theresa Glover. Picking up assists were Andrea Garson, and pick up player Julianna Adams. Ont. Concrete cut the lead to 2, with less than 2 minutes remaining in the period. Scoring for Ont. Concrete was Shelli Ubriaco, assisted by Donna May Sayers. Ont. Concrete continued their comeback in the second period, scoring once more to cut Algoma’s lead to 1. Scoring for Ont. Concrete was Lori Ballstadt, assisted by Justine Rodgers. The third period was a battle as the teams traded goals. Algoma, scored in the opening minutes of the period, to get the lead back up to 2. Less than a minute later, Ont. Concrete scored one of their own, to cut the lead to 1. About four minutes after their first goal, Ont. Concrete tied the game at 4-4. With the period coming to an end, Algoma was able to squeak one by Ont. Concrete’s goalie, Cheri Taylor, for the win. Scoring for Algoma was Tammy Vice and Pam Booth. Picking up the only assist was Garson. Ont. Concrete’s third period goals were scored by Rodgers and Ubriaco. Both goals were unassisted.

Skip’s Kweok – 0 vs. Country Way – 4

It was all Country Way in this one scoring once in the first period, once in the second period and twice in the third to get their third win of the season. Scoring for Country Way was Laurie Vermette, Linda Benedek, Rhonda Osadczuk and Sherry Boston. Picking up assists were Osadczuk (2), Dawn Secord, Michelle Irwin, Michelle Iarusso, and Vermette. Pick up goalie, Wanda Grife picked up the shut out in her first game as a goaltender this season.

Crawford’s Canines – 1 vs. Sports Gold – 3

Thank goodness for pick ups, as they dominated the score sheet in this game. Both teams were held scoreless in the first period and most of the second, until Sports Gold’s pick up player, Debbie Johnston was able to tip the puck passed Crawford’s net minder, Joy Agawa. Pick up player, Sharon Templeton picked up the only assist on the goal. It was Crawford’s turn in the third, as one of their pick up players, Lori Swan, rifled one passed Sports Gold’s Teri Bonnell to tie the game at one. Sports Gold dominated after that scoring twice more. Scoring for Sports Gold were Laurie Laudadio, and pick up player, Johnston. Pick up assists were Johnston and Lyndsay McFadgen.

BDO Dunwoody – 3 vs. North to Adventure – 0

It was a battle of the top two teams in the ‘A” Division, as BDO’s Mallory McCormick stole the show and game her team the win. Mallory McCormick scored all of BDO’s goals, giving her the hat trick. Karen Rosebrook and Patti Storozuk picked up assists. Mary Jane McCormick picked up the shut out for BDO, as they continue to lead the league.

Algoma Insurance – 1 vs. Fisher-Wavy Concrete – 4

Both teams were coming off a win and looking to keep that streak alive. However, Fisher-Wavy’s balanced attack seemed to much for Algoma to handle. Algoma’s only goal came in the second period, when Pam Booth muscled her way passed Fisher-Wavy’s defense and fired the puck passed Meredith Agliani. Andrea Garson picked up the only assist. Fisher-Wavy had full control, as they were able to score in each period. Goal scorers were Sandra Pawson, Jenn Blahey, Patti Lutz, and Heather O’Toole. Assists went to Blahey (3), Kelly Cudmore (2) and Pawson.

Sports Gold – 0 vs. White Oak Paint – 2

Guiding her team to victory was the outstanding goaltending of White Oak’s, Kristen Nelson who picked up the shut out. Both of White Oak’s goals were scored in the second period by Elaine Angelic and Wendy Basawa. Katie Healey and Shannon Irwin picked up the assists. Sports Gold, showed great sportsmanship and determination, but just couldn’t get the puck passed Nelson.

Crawford’s Canines – 4 vs. Brookfield Power – 1

After a loss the night before, Crawford was hungry for a win and didn’t give Brookfield too many chances to score. However, it was a great game as the first two periods were scoreless and there were 5 goals scored in the third. Scoring for Brookfield was Karen Gartshore, assisted by Jennifer Nieson and Cindy Sierzputkowski. Crawford’s goals were scored by Jennifer Mortimore (2), Marisa Pecile, and Lisa Turco. Picking up assists were Robyn Bourck (2), Lynn Mazzonello, and Jessica Lannigan.

Country Way – 3 vs. Lafarge – 4

The action was end to end, and both goaltenders had to remain focused at all times. Lafarge jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the first period. Goals were scored by Denise Goldade and Nicole Beachamp. Assists were given to Wendy MacDonald and Jennifer Dacosta. Lafarge scored twice more in the second to give them the win. Scoring for Lafarge were Angie Sackville and Beauchamp. Beauchamp and also picked up an assist. Country Way fought hard and were able to score three times in the second period, but just couldn’t score to take the lead. Goal scorers were Rhonda Osadczuk (2), and Sherry Boston. Linda Benedek, Michelle Iarusso and Laurie Vermette picked up an assist each.

BIG LEAGUE

The Big League teams saw their first action after the holiday season and were excited to get back on the ice.

Fewchuk – Palmer – 4 vs. Seamless Cylinders – 2

Fewchuk-Palmer scored early in the first period to set the tone. Meredith Agliani was awarded the goal, as her shot from the point was deflected off of Cylinder’s defense and into the net. The Cylinders came back late in the period, scoring twice, taking a 2-1 lead into the second period. Scoring the Cylinders were Sharon Buehner and Lorie Springall. Melissa Holder picked up the only assist. The second period was a scoreless one. It was all Fewchuk-Palmer in the third, as they scored three times to get the win. Goal scorers were Mary Jane McCormick, and pick up player Stefani Emmi (2). Picking up assists were Jen Greco (2) and pick up players, Joanne Pine, Meredith Agliani, and Patti Storozuk.

Misty’s Fifties – 1 vs. Verdi Hall - 0

It was a dual of goaltenders, as the first and second periods were scoreless, as both goaltenders came up big when they needed to. The only goal of the game came early in the third period, as Misty’s Chantal Anderson slipped by Verdi Hall’s defense and fired the puck passed, Tasha McClelland. Joanne Pine picked up the only assist.
