WHL REPORT - WEEK 11 After having a couple weeks off for the Christmas holidays, action resumed last Sunday at the McMeeken Arena. Players were excited to be back on the ice, as fans cheered in support of the players and teams.

WHL REPORT - WEEK 11

After having a couple weeks off for the Christmas holidays, action resumed last Sunday at the McMeeken Arena. Players were excited to be back on the ice, as fans cheered in support of the players and teams.

North to Adventure – 3 vs. Sports Gold – 0

First action of the night was between North to Adventure and Sports Gold. Both teams came out flying in the first period, as the action was end to end. North to Adventure was able to get on the scoreboard first, when Debbie Desgagne scored an unassisted goal. The action continued in the second and third periods with the results being the same. North to Adventure was able to score once in the second and once in the third to give them the 3-0 victory. Goal scorers were Desgagne, her second of the game and Debbie Shubat. Picking up assists were Debbie Johnston, Betty Buck and Shubat. Melissa Holder picked up the shut out for North to Adventure. Sports Gold, unfortunately just couldn’t take advantage of their efforts.

Ont. Concrete – 0 vs. BDO Dunwoody – 6

This game had its own unique twists and turns and seemed to be very confusing to all involved. BDO the first place team suffered their first loss of seasons, at the hand of the cellar-dwellers, Ont. Concrete. Even though the score sheet shows that BDO won 6-0, they actually lost 5-0 nothing. Due to a misunderstanding of the pickup rules, BDO had an illegal player and were forced to forfeit the game, therefore, giving Ont. Concrete a 5-0 win. However, the goal scorers for BDO will still be recognized and they are Karen Rosebrook (3), Diane Pietrzakowski, Patti Storozuk and pick up player, Wendy Basawa. Picking up assists were Basawa (3), Shelley Slawson (2), Julie Hazelton, Cynthia Zalewski and Storozuk.

Lafarge – 2 vs. Easy Express – 2

Fans were treated to a great battle, as these tow teams took it down to the wire. The first period was a scoreless one, as both goaltenders came up big. The second period was dominated by Lafarge, scoring twice to give them an early 2-0 lead. Both of Lafarge’s goals were scored by Nicole Beauchamp. Angie Sackville and Wendy MacDonald picked up assists. Easy Express took their turn in the third period, scoring twice to tie the game with less than 3 minutes left in the game. Both of Easy Express’ goals were scored by Kellie Nelson. Francine Floreani picked up the one assist. As the final minutes counted down, neither team was able score to give them the win, leaving the game tied.

Crawford’s Canines – 4 vs. Country Way – 3

Country Way was excited to be back on the ice, as they were able to score 3 goals in the first period giving them the 3-0 advantage. Scoring for Country Way were Kathy Berdux (2) and Michelle Irwin. Assists went to Michelle Iarusso (3), Linda Benedek (2), and Laurie Vermette. Crawford’s had to find a way to chip at the lead and get back in the game. In the first period, Robyn Bourck was to score just before the period ended to cut the lead to 2. Crawford’s continued to chip away at the lead, when Bourck scored her second goal of the game. Finally in the third, Country Way had done a good job of keep Crawford’s away from their net, but faltered with just under 3 minutes left in the game. Crawford’s was able to score twice in that time span to give them the 4-3 win. Scoring for Crawford’s was pick up player, Adele Nanne, and Pam Jurich. Picking up assists were Jennifer Mortimore, Lisa Turco, April Syrette, and Bourck.

Brookfield Power – 4 vs. Skip’s Kweok – 1

Brookfield just came out and dominated this game from the beginning to the end. Brookfield’s goal scorers were Debbie Beauchamp (2), Karen Gartshore, and Maddy Kasubeck. Picking up assists were Sharon Templeton (2), and Beauchamp. Skip’s fought hard and didn’t give up and was rewarded for their efforts, in the third period, when Mona Jones was able to score an unassisted goal. However, time was running out and Skip’s was not able to make a comeback.

Lafarge – 0 vs. White Oak Paint – 2

The teams seemed to just be feeling each other out in the first period, with neither team wanted to make a mistake, making the first period a 0-0 tie. White Oak was able to get on the scoreboard in the second period and added a second goal in the third to secure the win. White Oak’s goals were scored by Elaine Angelic and Rayanne Headrick. Wendy Basawa and Erin Smylie picked up an assist each. Kristen Nelson picked up the shut out for White Oak.
