A cheer could be heard throughout the league this weekend as news spread of Ontario Concrete's first win of the season.

It was a long time coming for the "Concrete Crew" who found the taste of victory so sweet, they satisfied the craving again on Sunday with their second straight win. Crawford's Canines and Skip's Kweok were the victims, losing 4-0 and 4-3 respectively.

In other games, Algoma Insurance upset Sports Gold 3-1 and two solid wins for B&J Trucking improved their standings from eighth place to fifth.

*** GAME RESULTS:

B&J – 7 White Oak Paint – 3

Natalie Barry and Joanne Pine each scored a hattrick and added one assist to lead B&J Trucking to a 7-3 win over White Oak Paint. After falling behind 2-1, B&J bounced back with four unanswered goals to lead 5-2 midway through the third period. Caroline Walker also scored for B&J and Kyla Sewell had three assists. Kelly Cudmore and Christine Robertson pitched in with one assist each, while pick up player Sarah McCabe earned two assists. Debbie Beauchamp scored twice for White Oak and Lisa Case scored once. Karen Gartshore had one assist.

Ontario Concrete – 4 Crawford's Canines – 0

Ontario Concrete's first win of the season was an emotional, monkey-off-the-back, triumph for the black and gold squad. Determination and good fortune paid off in a bizarre game that featured two disallowed goals and some creative scoring by The Concrete. With Crawford's first two goals of the game waved off for players standing in the crease, the stage was set for the kind of luck the Canines would have in this game. A geared up Concrete team took full advantage with Joey "The Goalie" Montgomery earning her first shut out of the year and Crystal Earl scoring her first career goal in the WHL with a "blast" from the point. Geri Miller scored twice and Christine Trivers once, while Maddy Kasubek added one assist. "We can't stop smiling," said captain Trivers after the game. "This feels so good. I'm so happy for Crystal and Joey. Geri's first goal (off the face off) was a bit lucky, but hey, we'll take it. The whole team played great."

Source for Sports – 3 Skip's Kweok – 1

Source for Sports defeated a shortened Skip's Kweok bench 3-1 at the Rankin Saturday. Carrie Mancuso led the way with two goals. Lisa Venier scored once while Elaine Derosario and Julie Laforce each had one assist. Sue Sherrard scored Skip's only goal with Elaine Angelic getting the assist. The win was Source's sixth of the year, keeping them in sole possession of 4th place, a spot which they have owned for the last five weeks.

Algoma Insurance – 3 Sports Gold – 1

Debbie Johnston scored twice and Rhonda Miskiw once as a pesky Algoma Insurance team stole a 3-1 win away from Sports Gold Saturday night. It was only Sports Gold's second loss of the year. After a scoreless first period, Johnston put Algoma up 1-0 near the end of the second frame with an unassisted, breakaway effort. Pick up player, Sue Sherrard evened things up with a shot from the point just three minutes into the third. Johnston's winner came with 1:32 remaining in the game and Miskiw's Algoma Insurance marker sealed the deal just 13 seconds later. Michelle Carter, Pat Baldassarro, Debbie "Digger" Desgagne and Julie Holland each had one assist for Algoma. Lisa Pauloff had the only assist on Sherrard's goal.

BDO Dunwoody – 2 Source for Sports – 1

Jen Blahey's goal with just under three minutes left to play stood up to be the winner in a thrilling game between BDO and Source for Sports. The two teams traded goals early in the first period and then traded chances for the next 37 minutes only to be denied by both goalies on every opportunity. Blahey finally solved Amanda Luther on a breakaway with 2:46 remaining. Wendy Basawa had BDO's opening goal and Amanda Fata had an assist on Blahey's winner. Lisa Venier answered for Source with Andrea Moraca getting an assist.

Ontario Concrete – 4 Skip's Kweok – 3

Ontario Concrete capped off a great weekend with a huge upset win over Skip's Kweok on Sunday. In the battle of first and last place teams (David and Goliath, if you will) "David" won out, toppling "Goliath" 4-3 in another gripping finish. It was the Kathy Berdux, Geri Miller and Carrie Mancuso show as all three players traded goals throughout the game. Berdux and Miller each scored twice for Ontario Concrete and Mancuso, a pick up player, scored all three goals (a hattrick) for Skip's Kweok. Miller's second goal of the game was the winner with just 1:38 remaining. Skip's last ditch effort was thwarted by Joey "The Goalie" Montgomery whose skate caught just enough of Joanne Theissen's point shot to deflect it into the corner at the buzzer. Kelly Carter had an assist on one of Mancuso's goals. Miller, Christine Trivers, Denise "Deeter" Goldade, Amber Lahti, Cheri Taylor and Shannon McLeod each had one assist for The Concrete.

Crawford's Canines – 5 Lafarge – 3

Crawford's Canines bounced back to defeat Lafarge 5-3. Robyn Bourck and Laurie Masters each had four points; Bourck, with a hattrick and one assist and Masters with two goals and two assists. Masters' second goal of the game was the winner, snapping a 3-3 tie with 8:24 remaining. Deedee Watson had two assists and Lisa Rowlinson, one for the Canines. Patti Storozuk was in on all three Lafarge goals, scoring one and setting up Lori Ballstadt and Sharon Templeton for the others. Trish Secondi pitched in with an assist on Templeton's goal. Wanda Grife picked up the win in goal for Crawford's.

Sports Gold – 6 White Oak Paint – 1

Sports Gold also rebounded after their loss and skated to a convincing 6-1 win over White Oak Paint. Sports Gold's Ellen Ford scored her first of the year. Kathy Pinkse scored twice while Andrea Jarzombek, Katie Healy and Tracey Maitland each scored once. Trish Buller and Lisa Pauloff had two assists each, with single helpers from Sabrina Fischer, Penny Souliere and Donna Smith. White Oak's Lisa Case snapped Teri Bonnell's shut out bid midway through the second with help from Rose Jones and Karen Gartshore.

B&J Trucking – 5 Country Way – 3

Kyla Sewell had two goals in B&J's 5-3 win over Country Way, including the winner with 7 minutes left in the game. B&J jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period but then surrendered three goals in a row in the second frame. Sherry "Boom Boom" Boston fired two goals and Heidi Frech scored one to put The Granolas up 3-2. B&J's Joanne Pine tied things at 3 with 10 minutes remaining, setting the stage for Sewell's heroics. Michelle Toulouse added one more before the end of the game. Deb Nolan had B&J's other goal while Natalie Barry and Christine Robertson each earned one assist. Frech had two assists and Linda Benedek had one helper for Country Way.
