Some timely scoring helped shuffle up the league standings heading into the Christmas Break.

A goal with just six seconds remaining lifted B & J Trucking past Ontario Concrete, improving B & J to sixth place from last week's ninth place standing. A late goal by Sports Gold to defeat Source for Sports, coupled with a win by Lafarge, knocked The Source from fourth place down to fifth and bumped Lafarge from sixth to fourth.

This week's report however, begins with last week's Skip's Kweok – Sports Gold game which was regretfully omitted.

*** GAME RESULTS:

Skip's Kweok – 4 Sports Gold – 1

In the showdown for first place last Sunday, Skip's skated to a 4-1 win over Sports Gold. The two teams went into the game with identical 4-0 records, although the underdog status went to Sports Gold with a "plus 14" record compared to Skip's impressive "plus 19" showing thus far. Veteran players Sue Chiblow and Mona Jones handled the scoring with two goals each while Chiblow, Sue Sherrard, Elaine Angelic and pick up players, Pam Jurich and Trish Irvine, each had one assist. Brianne Greco snapped Charlotte Boissoneau's shutout bid with 9:49 left to play on an unassisted effort.

B & J Trucking – 4 Ontario Concrete – 3

Joanne Pine's second goal of the game with just six seconds left to play helped B & J Trucking squeak past Ontario Concrete 4-3. It was the only time in the game that B & J Trucking held the lead. They trailed 2-0 and 3-2 before Pine went to work, scoring both the tying goal and winning goal unassisted. Also scoring for B & J were Deb Nolan and Kyla Sewell. Rosalee Boissoneau, Natalie Barry and Rose Jones each had one assist. Joey "the goalie" Montgomery was having the game of her life for Ontario Concrete before Pine spoiled her team's chance at their first win. Ontario Concrete's Christine Trivers had two goals. Kathy Berdux scored once and added one assist while Kristy Kernaghen pitched in with two assists.

Skip's Kweok – 5 Algoma Insurance – 2

Algoma Insurance played two even periods with the powerful Skip's Kweok but three goals in the second frame by Skip's proved to be the difference. The two teams ended the first period knotted at 2 and played a scoreless third period but rookie Amber Niganobe's first goal of the season along with Leah-Anne Pine's second of the game gave Skip's their league leading sixth straight win. Mona Jones added a persuasive, "phantom wrap-around goal" (with a wink and a smile). Elaine Angelic scored Skip's opening goal and added an assist while Sue Chiblow, Marg VanLandeghem and Sara McCabe each picked up two assists. Algoma Insurance opened the scoring with a goal from Theresa Glover. Deb Johnston had the other Insurance marker while single assists went to Doreen Shaw, Nancy Houle, Rhonda Miskiw and Trish Baldassarro.

Sports Gold – 3 Source for Sports – 2

It was the battle of the sports stores and what a battle it was as Sports Gold held on in exciting fashion to win 3-2 over Source for Sports. Much like B & J Trucking's victory, Sports Gold held the lead only once during the game – late in the third, when it counted most. Kathy Pinkse scored the winning goal with 5:58 left to play and The Gold's defence did the rest to preserve the win. Source for Sports held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 earlier in the game on goals by Lisa Venier, but Brianne Greco and Katie Healy answered to even the score. Kim Chapman had the only assist on Venier's goals while single assists for Sports Gold went to Andrea Jarzombek and Donna "Wheels" Smith.

Lafarge – 5 White Oak Paint – 2

Lafarge jumped out to a 3-0 lead and then scrambled for half a period as White Oak Paint closed the gap to 3-2 with just over ten minutes remaining. Patti Storozuk put the brakes on the comeback bid, scoring on a breakaway late in the third period to help Lafarge win 5-2. Other Lafarge goal scorers included Sharon Templeton, Sarah Fischer (1 goal and 1 assist), Shelli Ubriaco (1 and 1) and Alicia Pollock (1 and 1). Trish Secondi had two assists for Lafarge while Storozuk picked up one assist. Debbie Beauchamp had both White Oak goals and Marg Walsh had two assists. Lisa Case and Jen Greco each had one helper.

BDO Dunwoody – 5 Crawford's Canines – 4

BDO Dunwoody quietly remains in third place with a record of 4 wins and 1 loss. The Dunwoody squad barely squeaked past Crawford's Canines 5-4 in the night's finale. Playing with only eight skaters, including two pick ups and a pick up goalie, BDO played to the point of exhaustion to pull off the win. They pounced on the Canines early, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first six minutes but then surrendered three goals to the pesky Canines before the end of the second. The game featured the debut of Canines' goalie, Wanda Grise. After three quick "how do you do's" from BDO, Grise settled in quite nicely giving Crawford's a chance to win the game. But BDO's unrelenting attack put them back in the lead for good late in the third. Wendy Basawa led the way with two goals and two assists while Jen Blahey scored twice and had one assist. Amanda Fata added a goal of her own. Single helpers went to Pam Jurich and pick up players Sara Fischer and Brenda "Bruiser" Huibers. Pick up goalie, Amanda Luther, earned the win. Crawford's Robyn Bourck and Leslie Bois each scored twice and added one assist while Laurie Masters and Lisa Rowlinson also had one assist.
