Wolverines win NOSSA title

White Pines and St. Mary's each participated in Northern Ontario Secondary School Association basketball action over the weekend

A big second quarter led to a Northern Ontario Secondary School Association (NOSSA) senior boy’s basketball title on Saturday for the White Pines Wolverines.

White Pines held Lo-Ellen Park of Sudbury scoreless through the second quarter, while scoring 22 points of their own, in a 68-46 win at the NOSSA A tournament being held in North Bay.

White Pines led 17-16 through the opening quarter before taking over the contest thanks to the big second quarter.

Isaiah Graber led the Wolverines with 20 points. Matt Gregoire added 18 points. Lucas Higham also hit double digits with 10 points.

Abraham Soumahoro led Lo-Ellen with 18 points.

White Pines advanced to the final thanks to a 65-48 win over the tournament host, West Ferris.

Graber had 26 points while Tristin Olar added 14 in the semifinal victory.

White Pines moves on to the Ontario Federation of Secondary Schools Association (OFSAA) A tournament that is set to open on Mar. 6 in Windsor.

In other NOSSA basketball action over the weekend, St. Mary’s won the NOSSA AAA tournament in junior action in North Bay.

The NOSSA AAA senior tournament saw St. Mary’s fall in the final to Scollard Hall of North Bay.
