Wolverines claw their way to OFSAA in high school basketball

White Pines will represent northern Ontario in the senior boys basketball OFSAA tournament in Welland, which begins on March 4.

An unbeaten run means a shot at a provincial title for White Pines senior boys basketball team.

The Wolverines went 3-0 at the Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics (NOSSA) 'A' championship in Espanola to earn a spot as the northern representative in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championship next week in Welland, Ont.

White Pines opened the NOSSA tournament with a 61-42 win over Lockerby of Sudbury. 

Justin Grant and Markeese Strawbridge paced White Pines with 16 points each in the opener. Nick Louttit added 11 points for the Wolverines in the victory.

The Wolverines booked a spot in the title game thanks to a 57-49 win over North Bay's Algonquin in game two.

Grant led the offensive attack for White Pines with 17 points. Ethan McCorkell chipped in with 12 points and Louttit had 10 for the Wolverines.

In the final, Strawbridge had 27 points as the Wolverines captured the NOSSA title with a 77-58 win over Lockerby. Grant and McCorkell had 14 points each and Louttit added 10 in the title win.

The OFSAA championship runs from March 4-6.
