Korah's Esther Yule was named Sault Ste. Marie's top female high school athlete

Korah’s Esther Yule was named the Percy Bedford Award winner as Sault Ste. Marie’s top female high school athlete on Thursday night.

Yule is a multi-sport athlete for the Colts, competing in basketball and volleyball.

Other nominees for the award included Amber Dunbar of St. Mary’s, Shenay Chamberlain of White Pines, Breanna Hodkinson of Superior Heights, and Cassandra Breckenridge of Notre-Dame-du-Sault.

Other award winners on Thursday included Hannah Heimonen of Superior Heights (cross country), Alea Nye of Superior Heights (basketball), Taryn Greco of Superior Heights (volleyball), Nicole Costello of White Pines (curling), and Morgan Leonard of St. Mary’s (wrestling).

The awards ceremony honoured athletes in the five sports completed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic forcing an early end to high school athletics in March.

On Wednesday, the annual H.P. Broughton ceremony was held virtually where Team Brad Jacobs was named Sault Ste. Marie’s Sportsperson of the Year.

The top male high school athletes were also honoured.
