U.S. All-Stars claim Cougar Classic

The U.S. All-Stars, made up of former Lake Superior State University players including Kevin Weber who played for Sault College in the late 90's, claimed the Cougar Classic Basketball Tournament.

The All-Stars beat the Traverse City Defenders 104-88 in the championship game on Saturday night at Sault College. Steve MacDonald had 28 points and was named game's most valuable player.

Both teams were a perfect 2-0 in round robin play.

The Sault Colllege Cougars beat the Soo Selects 92-57 to seal third place in the six-team tournament. Jean Louis Ouattara had 23 points for the Cougars.

Both teams split a pair of games during round robin play.

In the consolation game, which featured the 0-2 teams, the Thunder Bay Hawks beat the Algoma University College Thunderbirds 81-70.

The Cougars will continue their exhibition play as they head down Queen St. to play Algoma on Wednesday night at 9 p.m. at the George Leach Centre.
