U-18 Civics return home with Soccerfest championship

The Colour Your World/Steel Speed Girls Under-18 Civics soccer team won the St.Thomas Soccerfest Tournament this past weekend. The Sault team wrapped up a 5 and 0 weekend with a 1-0 victory over the Sarnia Sting in Sunday night's championship match.

The Colour Your World/Steel Speed Girls Under-18 Civics soccer team won the St.Thomas Soccerfest Tournament this past weekend. The Sault team wrapped up a 5 and 0 weekend with a 1-0 victory over the Sarnia Sting in Sunday night's championship match. Zalona Caruso had the game's lone goal while Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick posted the shutout -- her 4th of the five games played. In the semifinals Colour Your World/Steel Speed beat London City Fusion 1-0 thanks to a goal by Alysha Vernelli. In round-robin action, the Civics opened with a 5-1 romp over the Lasalle (Windsor) Stompers. Heather Hamel and Nicole Delmonte each scored twice with Zalona Caruso adding a single. Game two saw Kaitlyn Train's hat trick power Colour Your World/Steel Speed to a 6--0 rout of the Windsor Valients. Caruso, Delmonte and Hamel added one apiece.

The final round-robin contest was a prelude to the final and it ended the same with the Civics beating Sarnia 1--0. Nicole Delmonte was the only player to find net.

The game MVPs in the round robin were Heather Hamel, Kaitlyn Train, Nicole Delmonte and Julia Burgess. In the final, Ashley Lane and Zalona Caruso captured MVP honours.
