The Scotia Thunder U-17 Civic Girls participated in the Heart of York Tournament in Newmarket this past weekend.

Battling through the tough weather elements, the Civics started with 3 games on Saturday in intense heat.

Saturday's games were a 3-0 victory over Orillia Lightning with goals scored by Stevie Reville(2) and Jess D'Angelo, with Shannon Delarosbil recording the shutout. The second game against Lake Simcoe United ended in a tie with no goals scored while the third nail-biting game was a 2-1 win against Newmarket United with goals by Tina Vagnini and Jess D'Angelo.

In semi-final action on Sunday morning, Scotia Thunder keeper Delarosbil made a great save late in the game and the team survived a 2-1 victory over the East Gwillimbury Talons with both goals scored by Stevie Reville.

On Sunday afternoon in the final match, the dark clouds rolled in and the rain fell hard but that didn't stop the Scotia Thunder as they fought back from a 1-0 deficit against Newmarket United with 15 minutes left on the clock. Stevie Reville secured the equalizer and the winning goal was clinched by Jess D'Angelo minutes later.

Coaches Rob Vagnini and Joe Ceglie are proud of their team's performance and look forward to their next upcoming tournament, the Peachfest in Romeo, Michigan during the Labour Day weekend.
