U-12 Civic girls strike gold in Sudbury

The System International Snipers traveled to Sudbury this past weekend to participate in the 9th annual Panhellenic Soccer Tournament.

On Saturday, the Sault girls opened the tournament with 2 ties. In both games Hannah Murray supplied the scoring for the Snipers scoring once in each game against the Collingwood Comets and Uxbridge Storm. Both games were 1 – 1 ties.

On Sunday, with a total team effort, the Snipers started the day with an impressive win over the Rayside Balfour Rebels 5 – 0. Scoring for the Sault were Danita Caruso with 2 goals, Bronte Yandeau with 2 and Hannah Murray with 1.

In the second contest of the day the Snipers defeated their arch rival S.C. Italia Diavoli in a spirited 1 – 0 victory. Danita Caruso scored the game’s only goal.

With their win over S.C. Italia the Snipers set their sights on a scrappy Collingwood Comets team in the tournament final. The Sault squad proved too much for their opponent winning the gold medal game 2 – 0. Goal scorers for the Snipers were Amy Francella and Tierra Chartrand. Brooke Bellerose picked up her 3rd shutout of the day and made a couple of outstanding saves in the final.

Members of the Sault Snipers U12 gold medal team include: Brooke Bellerose, Carley Bordin, Danita Caruso, Tierra Chartrand, Alyssa Dovigi, Mikayla Ferlaino, Amy Francella, Jassel James, Jana Longo, Karina Maione, Francesca Milito, Hannah Murray, Sara Nadon, Emily Nicoletta, Laura Orlando, Oliva Pastore, Brittany Peterson, and Bronte Yandeau.

Team MVP’s as voted by opposing coaches were: Game one – Amy Francella, Game two – Hannah Murray, Game three – Mikayla Ferlaino, Game four – Jassel James, Game five – Danita Caruso.
