************************* Atom and pee wee “Hounds” unveil identity today

The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club and Sault Major Hockey Association held a press conference earlier this morning to announce a new alliance formed between the two organizations.

Greyhounds GM Dave Torrie and Sault Major president Tim Burton were joined inside the Steelback Centre by players Dustin Jeffrey, Brandon MacLean, Owen Headrick, Ryan Cooke, Michael Avati and Michael Amadio.

In a historic announcement, a new name and “Greyhound” jerseys were unveiled for the SMHA’s atom and pee wee rep teams.

They will now be known as the Soo Greyhounds immediately.

“We have taken the opportunity to identify ourselves as a unified presence in hockey circles throughout Ontario,” explained Burton.

He would go on to comment on the excitement from the SMHA along with how he feels this announcement will benefit the Greyhounds.

“We consider this to be a tremendous milestone in the history of Sault Ste. Marie minor hockey and we think our partnership with the Greyhounds will allow us leverage and enhance our OHL teams’ recognition across the province. Our players are thrilled to wear the uniforms of their junior hockey heroes,” concluded Burton.

GM Dave Torrie concluded by commenting on the two organizations history past, present and future.

“The Soo Greyhound organization is proud to partner with Sault Major Hockey Association to announce that the Sault’s atom and pee wee rep teams will adopt the Greyhounds’ name and colours. This initiative continues the Greyhounds role and support of Sault Major as an expansion of the Greyhound identity. Previously the Greyhound bantam has used our name and colours and we are thrilled to expand this to the atom and pee wee rep teams. Our organization has enjoyed our history with the Soo Major Hockey Association and we feel this is a great example of the two organizations working together for the betterment of the young players of Sault Ste. Marie,” said Torrie.
