Veteran drivers were certainly enjoying their time at Laird International Raceway on Thursday night.

After running their Mid-Season Championship on Monday night, LIR was back in action on Thursday with a full schedule and it was a great day for veteran drivers, specifically those in the Late Model Division.

As always, the Fast Car Dash kicked the night off as veteran drivers Rick Leonard, George Wilson, and Rod Bolduc were joined by sophomore Jeremy Van Hoek in the first race of the night.

Wilson, the division's point's leader, had a tough time dialling in and wound up finishing fourth as another veteran, Leonard, took home the first victory of the night. Wilson did manage to get himself back on track and extend his points lead over Rod Bolduc.

With a win in the heat race and finishing one spot ahead of Bolduc in the race, he gained a point. Wilson cashed in on another nine points in the second Heat Race by finishing second to Van Hoek.

The Feature race was an entertaining one and not a very long race by any means. In what has become somewhat of a rare occurrence in the division, the race ran from green to chequered flag with no caution flags being forced to come out.

Wilson managed to manoeuvre his way to the front of the pack and once he got there, nobody was able to touch him as he took home the feature victory.

In the Modified Division, Kevin Oicle regained the points lead over 15-year-old Jordan Sims after placing second in both Heat Races. Heat one saw Oicle finish behind Nick Jobst, while the second heat saw the veteran finish behind Sims.

Oicle then proceeded to come out victorious in the feature race, a race which began with 11 cars but only finished with three. Oicle took home top spot, while Sims managed a second place finish.

In the Factory Stock Division, Chuck Fawcett's day started off well as he took home a victory in the first Heat Race but it was all south from there.

Fawcett dropped to fourth in the second heat, won by John Hamilton, but that was the first of his troubles as he wound up being disqualified during the feature race. Chris McDougall took home the feature win. Steve Kent, the points leader in the division, did not race on Thursday as he had prior commitments.

In the Stock Four Division it was a clean sweep as Dave King made a triumphant return to LIR after some time away from the track. King went on to defeat all competitors to pick up some important points heading into the final few weeks of the season.

Action at LIR continues next Thursday with a full slate of action beginning with qualifying at 6 p.m. with racing to follow at 7 p.m.

Things will get really heated on Aug. 20 when LIR hosts their annual Summer Extraveganza, which will feature everything from a car show, to a demolition derby and, of course stock car racing. Further information can be found on the official LIR website at www.lairdraceway.com.
