Once again the Soo North Stars have not rebuilt after a championship season. The team has just reloaded.

Matching the pace of a season ago when the locals dominated the Great North Midget League and rewrote the record books, the North Stars are 6-0 on the young season after a pair of wins over Valley East on the weekend.

Even more impressive is the tradition of defensive responsibility that each edition of the team manages to carry on. The team has set the GNML record for fewest goals against each of the last two seasons. In six games this season, the North Stars have allowed a minuscule five goals against.

On Friday, Dean Howard scored the only goal of the game from Adam Pyymaki and Derrek Coccimiglio. Ryan Dube recorded the shutout.

The North Stars followed with an offensive outburst on Saturday as eight different players scored in an 8-1 win. Scoring for the North Stars were Coccimiglio, Nic Lang, Mike Rivard, Brett Perlini, Dylan King, Howard, Kevin Closs and Jerry Petingalo. Pyymaki recorded four assists while Coccimiglio and Rivard set up two each.

The locals will take sole possession of first place into another pair of road games this coming weekend against Kirkland Lake and New Liskeard.
