Two SSMAC Swimmers Take Home High Point Trophies

Twenty-two athletes from the Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club traveled to Sudbury over the weekend to compete in the Fred Rams "B" Championships, hosted by the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club. Swim teams from all over the North Eastern Ontario region competed in the two-day event, with SSMAC emerging third overall.

Individual "high-point" trophies were awarded to fourteen-year old Andrew Dipsell and nine-year old Spencer Bordin, in their respective age categories. Dipsell won the 50-metre and the 100-metre freestyle events, as well as the 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke races. Bordin found top spot in the 50-metre backstroke, the 100-metre backstroke and the 100-metre individual medley.

Also finishing with impressive results was twelve-year old Michael Lawrence. Lawrence garnered gold in the 200-metre freestyle, as well as the 200-metre and 400-metre individual medley events.

Jack Carlyle, age 14, was fast with a gold medal swim in the 50-metre breaststroke. Carlyle had a second and third place finish as well. Sherri Lambkin, age 12, won a silver medal in the freestyle distance swim of 800 metres. Lambkin also won bronze in the 50-metre backstroke and in the 400-metre freestyle. Kendall Barban, 13, raced to a third place finish in the 200-metre freestyle and the 50-metre backstroke events. Barban placed fourth in two other races.

Christopher Carlyle, swimming in the boys' 12-13 age category secured second spot in the 400-metre freestyle and had four other top-eight finishes, while teammate Devon Cavanagh, 14, garnered silver in the 50-metre breaststroke. Cavanagh had five other top-eight placements. Thomas Castles, 14, placed second in the 100-metre butterfly and fourth in the 100-metre breaststroke events.

Kailee Valois, age 12, won bronze in the 100-metre butterfly, and found fifth spot in the 400-metre freestyle. Rayne Fisher, age 12, placed fourth in the 200-metre freestyle event and had three more top-eight placements.

Seven-year old Noah Janzen earned a fifth in the 100-metre individual medley.

Twelve- year old Brendan Wilton was fifth in the 50-metre breaststroke race and had four other top-eight results. Tyler Smith, age 10, placed fifth in the 100-metre backstroke and sixth in the 50-metre backstroke. Jennifer Glassford, age 14, placed sixth in the 50-metre freestyle event. Celine Gregoire, 12, had three seventh place results. Courtney Dipsell, age 9, was seventh in the 50-metre freestyle.

Other athletes to produce personal best swims include Erinn Theodossiou, Mychael-Anne Francis, Marissa Lobert, Logan Naccarato and Hannah O'Donnell.

Overall, Coach Nancy and Coach Mo were impressed with the Club's results. "Their hard work and dedication paid off this past weekend, and we are very proud of each and every swimmer."
