Tweens return with Northeastern Ontario ringette gold

Sault Ste. Marie was well represented at the Northeastern Ontario Ringette Championships held in Sudbury this past weekend. The Sault sent five teams to compete and came back with two gold medals.

Sault Ste. Marie was well represented at the Northeastern Ontario Ringette Championships held in Sudbury this past weekend.

The Sault sent five teams to compete and came back with two gold medals.

The Tween B Team was victorious in their division with five straight victories to take the championship.

Friday saw the Sault defeat Sudbury 5-4. Haley Allen had three goals and Riley Jo Linklater two with assists going to Kaila Maeumbaed, Maggie Kirkwood, Allen, Danielle Brandow and Jenna Marsh.

That same day, the the Soo beat Iroquois Falls 9-4. Kirkwood and Linklater had hat tricks, Jessica Sidwell had two goals and Marsh one. Assists went to Kirkwood and Allen with two each, Linklater, Sidwell, Marsh and Lorissa Harrington.

Saturday the Soo defeated Timmins 7-5. Kirkwood potted three goals, Linklater two with Harrington and Allenone netting one apiece. Picking up assists were Linklater with 2, Allen, Sidwell, Marsh and Kirkwood.

Semi-final action saw the Soo play to a decisive win over Sudbury 8-3. Kirkwood had an outstanding game with five goals while Linklater scored twice and Allen once. Assisting was Linklater and Harrington with two, Sidwell and Marsh.

Final action took place with the Soo once again meeting Iroquois Falls and taking home a 6-3 decision. Strong goaltending by Rachel Graham held the Soo team in the game while killing off penalties.

Kirkwood contributed with four goals and Allen with two. Assists were picked up by Kirkwood, Harrington, Linklater, Allen and Chelsea Pace.
