Titans boys basketball captures season's first tourney

The Titan Boys Major Midget Basketball team, coached by Thomas Cory, started out their tournament season with a gold medal in the Brampton Blue Devils AA Tournament.

Although the team played three tough games back-to-back on Saturday, they were prepared to meet the first place team in Pool 2 for Sunday’s semi-final game.

The Titans led at half time but allowed the Kingston Running Rebels to pull ahead in the third quarter before shutting them down in the fourth quarter, winning the semi finals 49-42.

Moving on to the champion game, the Titans battled the Scarborough Blues. A close fought game throughout, the Titans won the gold 69-66.

The Major Midget Titans will be back on the road again in a few more weeks for their second tournament in Guelph, Ontario.

The scores for all five games with high scorers are as follows:

* Game #1 vs. West Ottawa 58-49 (Tom Campana 31 pts, Mike Caputo 12pts, Josh Martella 9 pts)

* Game # 2 Brampton 61–52 (Tom Campana 18pts, Josh Martella 16pts, Seth Whitley 14pts)

* Game # 3 York Avengers 55–28 (Josh Martella 8 pts, Seth Whitley 6pts, Ethan Campbell 6pts)

* Game # 4 Kingston Rebels - semi-finals - 49-42 (Josh Martella 12pts, Tom Campana 10pts, Nate Zacharie 7pts)

* Game # 5 Scarborough Blues - finals - 69-66 (Josh Martella 25pts, Tom Campana 15pts, Seth Whitley 10pts)
