The Soo Thunderbirds will get an early look at their potential roster for the 2006/07 Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League season this weekend at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

The locals, who finished second overall and fell in the second round of the playoffs this past season, have four sessions scheduled over three days.

Players will hit the ice on Friday from 7-10 p.m. and twice Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. On Sunday, the spring try-out concludes with a workout from 2-4 p.m.

The try-out will be the first as head coach for Pat Carricato, who replaced Toots Kovacs at the helm a week ago.

In the past six years, the Thunderbirds have seen 20 graduates advance to secure scholarships in both the United States and Canada.
