Thunderbirds take another from Islanders

The Soo Thunderbirds completed a home-and-home sweep of the Manitoulin Islanders on Sunday night at the John Rhodes Community Centre. After exploding for five goals in the second period, the Thunderbirds cruised to a 7-3 win.

The Soo Thunderbirds completed a home-and-home sweep of the Manitoulin Islanders on Sunday night at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

After exploding for five goals in the second period, the Thunderbirds cruised to a 7-3 win.

On Friday in Little Current, the T-Birds doubled up the Islanders 4-2.

Jake Reid, Nick Minardi and Brett Perlini all scored two goals each on Sunday for the Thunderbirds, who dressed 14 skaters, while Brad DiCandia added the other. DiCandia and Reid also picked up assists.

Jason Chevrier, R.J. Panton and Tyler Corston-Moore potted goals for Manitoulin.

Each team recorded 25 shots on goal while Travis O'Brien took the win in net and J.J. Gargour the loss.

The Thunderbirds are home to the Sudbury Junior Wolves on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Rhodes before hosting the Michigan Soo Indians on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
